Mystery as residents across Merseyside woken by another 'loud bang'

People were confused after hearing what sounded like an "explosion" and "loud bang" across Merseyside.

Across the region, people said they heard the mysterious sound at around 7.30am on Sunday in areas such as Netherton, Maghull, Crosby and New Brighton.

Residents took to social media and described the noise as sounding like an "explosion" and saying it was "so loud."

One person in the Netherton area said the "ground shook" at the time of the bang and other people said it woke them up.

People guessed the noise was coming from the docks and it could possibly have been a "container falling" causing the bang.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said they did not receive any reports of the loud bang heard on Sunday morning.

But this wasn't the only time this weekend people heard "explosion" type sounds which reportedly "shook" homes across the region.

On Saturday at around 12.30am, another 'loud bang' woke many residents and left some homes 'shaking'.

One person said it was "really scary, I've never heard anything like it before" and another added "people's houses were shaking".

Another person said it was "unnerving" and their "flat shook" near the Albert Dock, as many residents were woken up by the mystery sound.

The "huge explosion sound" was heard around right across Merseyside including the city centre, Aintree, Kirkdale, Wirral and even areas in South Liverpool.

Merseyside Police confirmed to the ECHO they received many reports about the loud noise at around 12.14am on Saturday.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was also called to investigate.

Officers were on patrol in the Wirral and Liverpool area to try and locate where the noise come from, but the force confirmed the noise on Saturday was "not criminal".

But there is still mystery as to exactly where the noise on Saturday and Sunday came from and what exactly happened.
