Mystery as 'fantastic' Nottinghamshire village pub closes

A village pub appears to have closed its doors to the surprise of locals. The licensees at The Lambley haven't made any formal announcement but locals have reported it shut.

A row of traffic cones has blocked off the car park. One of the regulars said she was "surprised and disappointed" to learn of the closure of the traditional family pub which served freshly cooked food, including Sunday dinners. It also boast an attractive outdoor seating area - the new terrace, both undercover and alfresco - was built during the lockdown in 2020.

The pub, in Main Street, Lambley, was popular with walkers in the area. One said: "Sad. We were there on Boxing Day and it was doing good business, especially with walkers. Always served a good meal."

"We were only in on Saturday. Booked a table for Wednesday and car park was closed off but no sign to say it had closed," said a customer. One local said: "Such a fantastic pub. So sorry for the owners who invested a lot of time and money. Loved the meals and atmosphere here. My favourite local pub."

Another said: "Such a shame! Great food and proper village pub. Lovely outside area too that they invested in. Very sad. Feel sorry for the owners who put everything into the success of the lovely place."

The pub is one of three in the village, together with The Woodlark Inn and Robin Hood Inn. Emma Wilson, manager of the Woodlark, said: "I've only been here six or seven months. We're busy. We get a lot of people from Mapperley and Calverton.

"We're different. We're a little old village pub and base ourselves on seafood and we have Thai Tuesdays. The Robin Hood has had a new landlord and landlady and seem to be doing ok as far as I know."

Steve Westby, chairman of Nottingham CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) said: "In recent times it has seemed more like a restaurant with a bar rather than a pub which sells food, but it looks quite pleasant.."

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the licensees for comment.
