An upstanding citizen stepped in to help an allegedly homeless man who was shot multiple times for rummaging through a Philadelphia resident's trash, according to a report.
When police arrived at the scene of a reported shooting on Wednesday, a 32-year-old victim was discovered with gunshot wounds to his lower back and leg, according to NBC10.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said it appeared a passerby had stepped in to stop the man's bleeding by making a tourniquet out of the cords of power tools.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in stable condition, the Philadelphia news outlet reported.
The shooting took place outside of a 23-year-old man's residence who stayed on the scene to tell investigators what led to the shooting.
"This shooting was motivated due to the 32-year-old shooting victim (going) through the trash and that's when the 23-year-old resident of the property confronted the 32-year-old," Small told NBC10 Philadelphia. "There was a verbal argument and it led to a physical altercation."
The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
