Mysterious abandoned building in Glasgow up for sale at auction

A mysterious abandoned building in Maryhill is up for sale at auction - with no knowledge of its former use.

The property at 87 Wilton Street, located to the rear of a traditional tenement block, is severely fire damaged and rumoured to have been a dancehall, community hall, Boy’s Brigade Hall and a church. However, there is little historic information available online to support the claims.

Going under the hammer with property auctioneers Auction House Scotland at their next in-room auction on Thursday, November 3 at the Radisson RED hotel in Glasgow, the property will be open to bids at a starting price of £150,000.

The sandstone building is entered via the basement level, which is comprised of the majority of the right-hand side of the whole basement of the building. From the entrance door, a hallway leads straight ahead, with two rooms to the right-hand side, and two rooms to the left.

Stairs from the hallway lead down beneath the hall floor, all the way to the other side of the hall, with stairs leading back up to the floor level. The rear of the building backs onto Wilton Crescent Lane, a paved lane just off of Wilton Street.

The mysterious hall boasts an impressive floor space and basement level, as well as a tall arched ceiling and mezzanine. It is understood that previous planning had been submitted for development of the building some twenty years ago but work never started.

Mandi Cooper, Managing Director of Auction House Scotland said: “A true hidden gem, this dilapidated building offers a fantastically unique opportunity for a developer with imagination to transform it into an amazing west-end development.

“If anyone has any information as to the history of the building, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch on 0141 339 4466 or send us an email to info@auctionhousescotland.com”.

While property is due to go under the hammer at 2pm on November 3 at the Radisson RED hotel, pre-auction offers are being considered.

The auction will be live streamed allowing interested bidders the option to watch and bid online, whilst telephone and proxy bidding is also available if potential buyers are unable to attend the auction to bid in person.

For further information about the property and the auction, or to make a pre-auction offer, you can call Auction House Scotland on 0141 339 4466.
