Mysuru District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Societies Ltd, also known an MYMUL, has decided to increase the purchase price of milk from farmers by ₹2 per litre with effect from April 1.
The Ugadi gift is expected to serve as an incentive to farmers to produce more milk in summer months when the yield of milk declines.
Farmers, who were hitherto paid ₹27.02 for every litre of milk with fat of 4.1 per cent and SNF of 8.5 per cent, will henceforth receive ₹29.02 per litre.
A statement from MYMUL said a total of 2,19,957 dairy farmers from 1,123 primary milk producing co-operative societies had been producing a total of 6,08,524 litres of milk every day. However, the onset of summer and the resulting shortage of fodder would lead to a decline in yield of milk. With a view to encouraging the farmers to produce more milk and to manage their farming activity, MYMUL, at a its managing committee meeting held on March 29, decided to increase the purchase price of milk, the statement added.
