Joe Flacco and the Browns picked up an important win over the Jaguars on Sunday, helping the team improve to 8–5 on the season.
The veteran quarterback was sharp in his second start of the campaign, and he received some praise from Cleveland’s star defensive end Myles Garrett for his play. During an on-field interview with ESPN’s Kimberley Martin after the win, Garrett offered the perfect descriptor of his new teammate when asked about the Browns’ quarterback.
“He’s elite,” said Garrett of Flacco.
The 38-year-old completed 26-of-45 pass attempts for 311 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Clearly, his teammates were excited about his performance.
Flacco’s 311 passing yards were the most by a Browns quarterback this season. Deshaun Watson, who started six games, had a season-high of 289 yards and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson started three games with a high of 165 passing yards.
After the game, Kevin Stefanski rewarded Flacco by naming him the starting quarterback for the rest of the year.
He’ll be back in a starting role for the first time since taking over in place of Zach Wilson last season on the Jets, when he started four games. With Watson out for the season due to a shoulder injury, Flacco will look to steady the ship for Cleveland as the team makes a playoff push.
