Mykhailo Mudryk sends classy message to Kieran Trippier after Chelsea beat Newcastle

Mykhailo Mudryk sent a classy message of support to Kieran Trippier following Chelsea’s Carabao Cup win over Newcastle on Tuesday night.

The Magpies led for much of the contest after Callum Wilson’s goal in the first-half but Mudryk scored late to force the quarter-final through to a penalty shootout.

Chelsea won that 5-4 to progress into the final four on another difficult night for Trippier.

The vastly experienced England international made two mistakes as Eddie Howe’s side lost at Everton earlier this month before a poor display at former club Tottenham a few days later.

Brought on following injury to teammate Emil Krafth at half-time, Trippier dallied when clearing a late cross, allowing Mudryk to score.

To compound matters, Trippier – who has been an excellent signing for Newcastle since a £12m move from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 – then missed his spot-kick during the shootout.

Manager Eddie Howe said of the defender after the game: “He has taken the group to a different level. After giving so much it's our turn to support him."

Mudryk added on Instagram: “Kieran, I just wanna say to you: stay strong. Sometimes s**t happens but I think you are strong footballer, no matter what.”
