Mykhailo Mudryk drops new Arsenal transfer hint with plea to Mikel Arteta amid Real Madrid race

Mykhailo Mudryk has admitted that he would prefer a move to Arsenal than Real Madrid if it meant he was a starter at his prospective new club.

The forward was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window, but a deal could not be done between the Gunners and the Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk. But Arsenal supporters may not have to wait too long to see the frontman in the red of the Gunners in north London.

Mudryk has seven goals for Donetsk this season, with three of those coming in the Champions League. His proposed transfer to Arsenal has even become a long-running joke in the Shakhtar changing room, goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin revealed in November.

Positively for Edu and Co. it appears as though the youngster is in fact very open to a move to Arsenal, who need more depth in their wide areas. Speaking to CBS Sports back in September, he said: "I think every guy dreams about the Premier League. It's hard to say [who his preferred move is], but Arsenal is a very good team, very good coach, I like the way they play."

Now, he's even admitted that he would choose north London over Madrid if it meant more game time.

As cited by the Metro, when asked if the role on offer at his prospective new club would play a part in his decision, he said: "From a purely hypothetical perspective if there was the option of being a bench player for Real Madrid or a starter for Arsenal, I'd probably choose Arsenal.

"But it's a tough question and involves a lot of factors in my answer. I would first want to know from the head coach that even if I wasn't a guaranteed starter, that I'd receive a chance. Essentially I need to hear directly from the manager what he envisages my role in his side to be."

With Bukayo Saka in inspired form this season, Mudryk isn't a guaranteed starter at the Emirates, either. However, he would be a valued squad member and an incredible option for Mikel Arteta as he looks to mount a title challenge come January.
