'My son was just trying to break up a fight but his life then changed forever'

A mum has launched an emotional appeal for witnesses after her son was glassed in the face while trying to break up a fight between rival football fans in a pub. The innocent victim's eyesight was damaged for life and he was left with scarring to his face after being attacked at the Piccadilly Tap near Piccadilly station in October last year.

Crimestoppers is now offering a £2,500 reward to help catch the thug responsible. Speaking anonymously, the victim's mum said: "Last year, our son's life changed forever when a violent football fan smashed a pint glass into his face, scarring him and damaging his eyesight for life.

"He now has only 70 per cent vision in his left eye. He was trying to break up a fight between two opposing fans when the attack happened.

"CCTV captured the entire incident. Our son has lost confidence and is struggling to make sense of what happened. If you know who was involved, please tell police directly or stay anonymous with Crimestoppers.

"The attacker could strike again at any time. Please help bring this man to justice."

The attack took place at 8pm on Sunday October 2. British Transport Police have previously issued CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to as part of their investigation.

Gary Murray, from Crimestoppers, said: "This was a senseless attack on somebody who was trying to keep the peace, which has led to an injury that will affect him for the rest of his life. Please help us to find this thug and if you think you know who is responsible for this serious attack or you recognise and can name the person in the CCTV images, please tell our charity anonymously."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
