'My son is fighting for his life in Leeds Children's hospital and I can barely afford to go and see him'

A pregnant Yorkshire mum whose baby son is in intensive care at Leeds Children's Hospital has appealed for £1,500 as she faces a financial struggle while she cares for her son.

Anamaria Ruta, 24, and her partner set up a GoFundMe appeal after medics said Ayan, who is 20 months old, would not be leaving hospital any time soon and might be there for months and even years to come. Ayan who was born in July 2021 has complex congenital heart disease and any progress is agonisingly slow.

The family are being supported by the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and are living in the accomodation provided by the organisation. However, with Ayan facing a long battle ahead, the family are also fundraising for help once Ayan is out of hospital.

Anamaria who is 20 weeks into her third pregnancy and who has another son aged two years and eight months, said: "It is so hard to see my baby like this. Please help us it is a very hard situation for us.

"We have been at the hospital for around three months and my baby boy is going to be there for a long time, it is very slow progress.

"I hope people can be generous and help us give him a good life. It is not easy with all the travel from Hull to Leeds and the cost of food." Anyone who can help Anamaria and her family can donate here.

Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) have been supporting this family financially for the last three months, and providing accommodation through The Sick Children’s Trust’s Eckersley House. CHSF would like parents to know that if they need emotional, family, financial and accommodation support whilst attending the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit for their child’s treatment we have been, and are always there if they need us.
