'My neighbour told my girlfriend I was cheating on her - I'm filing a complaint'

A woman says she's reached the end of her tether with her interfering neighbour, who, after causing her difficulties for years, has now started to stir up trouble between her and her girlfriend. Unfortunately, after making a complaint, she's been left feeling guilty and unsure of what to do next.

According to this fed-up woman, her 63-year-old neighbour Helen has had an issue with her from the beginning, and told her directly that she wasn't happy about a young person moving in as they'd probably be "a party animal".

This couldn't be further from the truth, however, given that the 27-year-old is studying for a PhD while working full-time, and simply doesn't have the time to go to parties.

Ever since the student first moved in two years back, Helen has "found something to complain about at least once a week", whether that be the branches from her tree blocking out her sunlight, to the dinner party she threw on New Year's Eve.

When her girlfriend moved in six months ago, the complaints escalated to the point of becoming more or less "constant". One of Helen's biggest gripes is the anonymous woman's girlfriend, who is a field archaeologist, sometimes getting mud on the public path.

The couple always makes sure to clean the path and says nobody else has an issue with this. Recently, she's reached breaking point after a particularly shocking incident and decided to finally make a complaint against her nightmare neighbour.

Taking to Reddit, she wrote: "The final straw came last week. I've had various people over to interview them for my thesis, all men. She told my girlfriend I was cheating on her because I'd had 10 gentlemen callers this week (it was three elderly French men).

"My girlfriend freaked out and we had a massive fight where both of us were confused before we realised. I filed a complaint with our council. Unbeknownst to me, our council has a 'three strikes and you're out' policy. I was the third complaint.

"Now she faces the possibility of having to move or being evicted in her 60s. I didn't intend for that to happen. She's been accosting us every time she sees us since."

One fellow Reddit user advised: "You didn’t get her kicked out. Her behaviour got her kicked out. She knew about the previous warnings and continued with harassing behaviour. This is 100% on her."

Another commented: "The other two strikes are not your fault or your business or anything to feel guilty about. She got herself into that mess. The fact that she told your partner you were 'cheating' when you are innocent is completely disgraceful."
