If your neighbours are purposefully trying to be irritating, it may be seriously tempting to take petty revenge - but most of us will try and let things go, rising above all the silly drama. But when one woman's neighbour had reported her to social services because her outside bin "had some flies in it", she knew that they "didn't like her", so she was contemplating reporting them for their illegal habit.
The woman explained that her kids were unable to go outside into the garden because the neighbour "is always out in their garden or on the front smoking weed, day and night", and she wanted to mention something to them, asking them to stop.
She took to Baby Centre's forum to write: "My neighbour is always out in their garden or on the front smoking weed, day and night, I know people are entitled to do what they want in their own home etc.
"My problem is not only that it stinks and I can't let the kids in the garden but this neighbour has called social services on me for my outside bin having some flies in it, they also have numerous kids in their house on weekends you can hear them in the back garden throwing up all night long.
"Would I be unreasonable to mention to them about the smell or given that they clearly don't like me anyway would it just cause issues?"
In the comments, people suggested that she may want to be "discreet" if she reported them to anyone else, saying that speaking to them directly would "cause more issues."
Someone wrote: "We've had similar issues with neighbours and it coming through the loft space. Absolutely nothing we could do and if anything, when confronted, they did it more. Apparently, once they've used for a while they don't smell it so they wouldn't be bothered and would only defend their right to do it (again from personal experience). Sadly, there's nothing you can do but, try to prevent the effect on your property by keeping the windows closed."
Another said: "It would p**s me off no end as I cannot stand the smell of weed. It gives me a headache. I'd report it to whomever I need to - council? Police? - I'd have to look it up - because it would be causing me distress or whatever antisocial grounds it would fall under.
"If someone can report some bags of wood (for which we were threatened with court), on our property as causing them distress, then I think smoking weed definitely counts as antisocial. I hate it. Sorry to all those who love it. But it makes me feel ill. It's a selfish habit to make others endure. Just like smoking. Keep it inside if you need to do it. You don't have to inflict it on your neighbours."
