'My mum put an inappropriate post on Facebook about my baby shower - I'm livid'

Hosting a baby shower can be a really fun experience. You're excited for your little bundle of joy to come along and light up your lives, you're surrounded by those you love, and you're likely inundated with presents for your baby (and maybe some for you!).

Once you've decided on the guest list, you may write out invitations, or send them online if you prefer. But one woman got more than she bargained for when her mum invited over 500 of her Facebook friends to her baby shower, writing: "Who wants to come celebrate with us?!"

The daughter took to Reddit's 'Am I the a**hole' forum to complain about her mum, who said she was 'overreacting', despite her pleas.

She wrote: "My mum posted my baby shower invitation to her 500+ Facebook friends/the public saying, 'Who wants to come celebrate with us?!'

"My hubby's close family friend offered to host us at her private home. We had already discussed a set guest list of 30 people. The invitation included the home address and personal cellphone number of the host.

"My mother-in-law called me this morning freaking out about the family friend's privacy. I told her I would contact my mother immediately and I profusely apologised. I thought my mum would private message the guest list we had discussed.

"My mum responded by saying we were overreacting. She said, 'OHHH MY GOD.' Then said she was in the middle of something and was too busy to take down the post immediately.

"I got upset and told her that since Facebook is connected to her phone she could delete the post in less than two minutes and that I would redesign an announcement that she could share freely. She repeated she was busy and would do it by the end of the day.

"I understand the excitement, but I want to be really respectful of the host since she is being kind and saving us a lot of money for this special celebration.

"Am I the a**hole for getting upset and embarrassed by my mum's behaviour?"

People were shocked that her mum hadn't removed the post immediately like she was asked to do.

One wrote: "Not the a**hole, but if she doesn't delete it, comment on the post and say no one is invited."

Another said: "Uninvite her from the event at absolute minimum!"

Someone else fumed: "Yes! She wants to be foolish, make her look foolish. Tag her in the post and ask her to remove it and inform everyone that it's nonsense. She wants to f*** around, let her find out. Her behaviour is weird."
