'My mum called my wife trashy - so I kicked her out of the house'

A man has claimed he had to kick his mother out of his house after she called him and his wife trashy when they asked for a helping hand with a chore for their kid. The unnamed son took to a Reddit post to explain that they had recently invited his mother round to meet their six-month-old son for the first time.

During the visit, the American wife asked the mother if she would be able to do her newborn son's laundry to help her out.

The husband explained in the post: "Now we come from very different families, and I know she offended my mom.

"In my mom's world you don't ever ask a guest to do something like that. In my wife's family they are very close, a bit suffocating at times to be honest, and everyone pitches in."

He explained that when he and wife stay with his wife's family, they will be given things to do around the house, but if they stay with his family they are waited on.

In response, the mother decided not to cause a fight and went to the laundry room to help with her grandson's laundry. However, she was less than impressed with the request.

"Her boyfriend went in the laundry room with her and was like 'why would she ask you to do that, why are you doing it?' My mom said she just doesn't want to fight with me anymore," explained her son.

But things took a turn when he heard his mother say next: "Her boyfriend was like 'ok but to be clear if my mom came over would you ever ask her to do work?' My mom said 'no, I'm not trashy'."

The son then stormed into the laundry room to confront his mother and her boyfriend to say how dare they call his wife names in their own home.

"My mom tossed the things at me and said good, I can wash them as it isn't her house and she did not chose to bring our son into the world," explained the son.

"I said she crossed a line by calling my wife names in our own home. I told her to get out and she isn't half the woman my wife is. My mom told me we are both trashy and she is done with us."

The son has since received a wave of backlash from his extended family but still feels his mum was very out of line.

Many have agreed with him online with one Redditor saying: "Don't visit a home with a newborn for more than 5 minutes if you don't intend to help them out."

While another wrote: "I guess I'm trashy as well. I will wash clothes or dishes, sweep ,mop, fold clothes etc. It's about helping people you care about, not being an additional chore for them."
