'My husband keeps fixing our neighbour's home - but our shower's been broken for months'

An unnamed husband has received quite the backlash online after doing odd jobs for his ex two doors down, but not fixing the shower for his wife at home. The wife anonymously took to Mumsnet to explain that her husband and the neighbour two doors down once had a brief fling which the wife says irks her.

However, in recent months the woman has asked her husband to come round to do odd jobs in the house when things get broken. The husband and all of his friends are tradesmen so the odd house jobs are easy. But his wife explained that while he does these things for the neighbour, he is yet to fix their own shower despite her asking.

In her Mumsnet post, the wife explained: "She is constantly asking him for favours and to help her with “man jobs” like cutting a hedge and moving furniture etc. And yet he will never do any of our jobs around the house like fix the shower. He is a tradesman and his mates are tradesmen….so the jobs can easily be done!"

Whenever she brings it up to her husband that he will jump to help the neighbour two doors down but won't help her, he claims she has low self-esteem and should not be worrying about anything to do with him and the neighbour.

"He says I’m being ridiculous getting upset over him being nice and helping. I apparently cause loads of tension bringing it up and if I want help then I should ask," she explained.

However, the wife continues on to say that she does ask for help as she suffers from a serious illness and the pair have a toddler so she knows she knows she asks for help from him.

"I struggle with getting on top of housework and we haven’t had a working shower for months, and the bathroom floor is a scrap of old carpet. He will spend his free time on his Xbox," she stated.

In response, many people have rushed to her defence with one commenter saying: "You are not crazy and I would be suspicious, especially as he isn't changing since you spoke to him about it. I'd say he's gaslighting you."

While another claimed: "If he won't do anything for you don't do anything for him. Tell him his neighbour can cook tea for him. But really he sounds dreadful and I should imagine he will never listen to your complaints. He is of no use to you."
