'My husband is having an affair - now I'm in love with his mistress's partner'

A woman's life was turned upside down when she found out that her husband was having an affair, but now she's fallen in love with his lover's partner. It’s a complex affair, but the anonymous wife has taken to Reddit to share the details of the story that led her to this confusing realisation.

The poster is 36 years old, while her husband is 38. The pair share a daughter of six-years-old together who is "everything to me," as she writes on the on the subreddit r/TrueOffMyChest. The story starts with a simple explanation: "I found out a year ago that my husband is sleeping with his employee (f30), how? Her husband, let's call him J (m35) contacted me."

The mistress's husband sent the woman proof of messages and dates of times they were in hotels. The user recognised her husband’s texting style and was already familiar with the other woman.

"She'd been nothing but kind and pleasant towards me and she always doted on my daughter," the user wrote.

After receiving the dreadful news, the Reddit poster and husband of the woman agreed to meet.

The wife explained to him her current situation, as she wrote: "I'm currently not working after the pandemic I lost my job and now the economy I haven't really had any opportunity to find job.

"Instead I've been studying these past 2 years. If I divorce now I won't be able to provide for my daughter."

The other husband had three children of his own, so he understood the situation exactly.

They agreed to wait a few months before confronting the situation with their respective other halves.

They then kept in touch, calling one another a few times a week which eventually led to conversations other than their "failed marriages."

The user explained: "Afterwards we started going for walks, coffee movies etc. I found myself thinking about him often with a smile on my face.

"He was the first thing I thought of in the morning and the last thing I thought of before going to bed.

"For the last three to four months we probably mentioned our spouses one or twice. We talk about everything else and he always makes me laugh (he thinks I'm funny too)."

Their emotions overcame them, as the Reddit user continued: "Two weeks ago we were having a picnic and he just blurted out ‘I think that I'm in love with you’.

The woman admitted she was grateful for the affair in the end (Getty Images/iStockphoto)

"When he then explained himself it just drove the point home that I also am in love with him."

He then said that he wasn’t sure if his emotions were real or just because they were sharing an awful experience together.

Then he said that he was grateful for his wife’s infidelities, as it led him to her, which was “exactly how I felt too."

"I didn't know what to say," she continues. Adding: "I told him that I'm terrified that these are false feelings that would go away once we've freed ourselves from those who hurt us.

"He just beamed at me and said he was willing to take the risk just to find out. He kissed my hand because I thought we were still married and if we did something then how are we better than our SO?"

She is now confused over what to do next, as the other husband just wants to see how they get on together but she doesn’t want to be distracted from her studies and complexities of her life.

"My goal now is to secure my job and leave this marriage," she said, adding: "Am I pathetic for wanting to give J and I a shot and see where it would go? Can two broken hearts really find happiness together when their love story started like ours?"

Another user took to the comments, encouraging her to give the other husband a chance: "Go for it. I would love to see both of their faces when they find out you two are together. Why worry about them. They weren't their SO when they were having an affair."

A second user agreed, adding: "You are absolutely not pathetic and I think it's wonderful something beautiful came out of a horrible situation. It's definitely complicated though and won't be easy, so I wish you luck. I hope it works out, op!"

One user also pointed out that his story has a few similarities to the journey a celebrity went on, writing: "This is what happened to Shania Twain. She married the husband of the woman Shania's husband cheated on her with. Like who would cheat on SHANIA TWAIN?"
