'My hero' - Ex-Manchester United 'keeper Ben Foster saves last-gasp Wrexham penalty vs Notts County

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster was the hero for Wrexham as they beat Notts County 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

Ahead of the match, many billed the contest as a title decider with the Red Dragons and the Magpies battling out for the only automatic promotion spot. And, the nerves were clear to see from both sides in the opening stages.

At the stroke of half-time though, the visitors went into the lead as John Bostock curled home a superb free-kick beyond the reach of Foster. After the interval, Wrexham came out firing and were level on 50 minutes when Paul Mullin swept home after a fine move.

On the hour mark, Foster nearly gifted the lead back to Notts when his mistimed clearance rebounded off Macaulay Langstaff but fortunately for the 40-year-old, the ball drifted harmlessly wide. Jacob Mendy completed the turnaround for the hosts less than ten minutes later with a strong strike.

After Foster had made a fine save moments before, he would concede again in the 75th minute as Kyle Cameron headed in unmarked from a corner. However, Elliot Lee would come to the rescue with 12 minutes to go to send Wrexham back to the top of the National League.

The drama did not finish there though as Notts were awarded a late penalty for handball deep into stoppage time. Substitute Cedwyn Scott stepped up but Foster produced an outstanding save down to his right to win the match for his team.

Afterwards, fans from across football could not get enough of Foster's last-gasp save. Here is what they had to say on Twitter.
