When Maheck Chahal was first offered the role of a naagin on TV, she wasn't sure if she would be able to pull it off. The actress says, "Though I am a Sikh, I have been born and brought up in Norway, so my Hindi was never good. I could not read or write Hindi. When I was confirmed for the role in Naagin 6, a part of me wanted to reconsider because I thought I would not be able to speak Hindi well."
When she finally accepted the offer, her friends felt she was making a mistake. She said, "My friends joked saying, 'You don't know how to speak Hindi, and you have decided to play a Naagin!' They never felt that I would be able to pull it off for a year. Now when finally my work has been appreciated and the show has lasted for more than a year, I am having the last laugh! I am glad my hard work has paid off. I worked hard on my diction and even had a tutor training me in Hindi on the set."
Maheck also wasn't very familiar with the workings of the TV industry when she started shooting for Naagin 6 last year. "A few years ago, I was a part of the TV show Kavach, but had to opt out in two months due to an injury. When I started shooting for this show, I understood how the television industry functioned. It has long working hours unlike in films."
Maheck is enjoying playing the negative role in Naagin 6. She said, "My personality comes across as someone who is headstrong and firm. So makers feel that I am more suited for negative roles. I am fine with that, because negative roles are usually more challenging. Anyway, what matters really is the role, positive or negative. So in the future, I want to continue doing good work and explore different characters."
