'My friend's baby name sounds like a criminal act - I didn't hold back telling them'

Choosing a name for your baby is a huge decision, but regardless of what others think, it's vital that you as their parents love it.

Parents-to-be will usually weigh up things factors like whether it will be hard to pronounce, or the chances they will be teased for it later in life, but ultimately it's their decision.

However, one woman found it incredibly hard not to share her opinion when her friend told her what they were going to name their newborn child.

A screenshot was posted to popular forum Reddit, where the fraught scenario, which turned explosive, was revealed.

The anonymous Reddit user explained that she and her friend Jordan don't mesh particularly well together, but that they are part of the same friendship group.

Despite not being particularly close, the 26-year-old couldn't keep her mouth shut when they told her what the baby's name was going to be – Arsyn Europa – a moniker people later pointed out sounds like the criminal act of arson.

Their mutual friends initially complimented Jordan's choice, but the woman couldn't help but tell it straight. In the post, she continued: "I came right out and said 'please don't give a human being that name, seriously."

The woman explained that she wouldn't have said anything if the child was already born, but because there was still time to "change their mind," she had to say something.

The reddit user continued: "Of course, it all blew up into a big thing.

"I said you're naming an actual person and should not just treat them like an accessory for yourself. It's just not a good name, and I can't pretend otherwise, sorry."

The Reddit user was told it was "not her place to speak on such things" and that she had gone "too far and attacked not just the name but parenthood itself and was way out of line".

In the comment section, many agreed that it was not an appropriate name for a baby. One person scathed: "Why do they hate this child before it's even born? Talk about setting the kid up for failure".

Another said: "Why would anyone name themself, let alone another person, after a violent crime?"

A third commented: "Jordan's 'friends' are so fake for that."

"Are they going to name their second child, Feloneigh?," joked another individual.
