'My face was destroyed after I tried a popular beauty trend – I had to go to hospital'

When something goes viral on social media, it can be so tempting to hop on the hype without even thinking about it, taking it totally at face value.

But one woman has warned others to think before jumping on popular beauty trends so eagerly after she ended up hospitalised when she tried one she saw on TikTok.

Regina Quaye wanted to remove peach fuzz from her face, so when she saw a raved-about method online that suggested dry shaving it, she decided to give it a whirl to see what happened.

Vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz, is fine, short hair that grows all over your body, including your face, stomach, arms, and legs. It helps regulate your body temperature and protects your skin.

After Regina dry-shaved her peach fuzz in November last year, a nightmare ensued as her face became painful and swollen, and her skin looked 'destroyed'.

Rushing to the emergency room, doctors prescribed hydrocortisone cream to try and calm her skin down.

And now Regina is warning others not to try the beauty hack that hasn't been tried and tested by professionals.

She explained: "I shaved because I'd tried it once in 2021 and broke out, but I thought it was the new skincare products I was using at the time. My skin started to flare up three days after I shaved.

"I experienced a terrible breakout to the extent that my face became swollen."

Thankfully, Regina's skin became better after a few treatments of the cream she was given, but now suffers from acne-prone, oily skin, so can only use specific skincare products.

In her warning video, some social media users were horrified, but others shared their own experiences.

Someone wrote: "Shaving my face destroyed my face, I spent months fixing it."

Another said: "But why would you shave your face? The hair is there for a reason."

"I shaved my face a year ago and I'm still suffering", a woman complained.

"An example of don't follow every skincare trend you see on TikTok", a social media user fumed.

Regina has since shared an update showing a few products that helped her including qasil powder, a hydrating moisturiser, and Acnotin.
