'My ex demanded our son be named after him - but has no interest in raising him'

A new mum has found herself warring with her ex-boyfriend over the name she chose to give their newborn baby boy, even though the tot's dad wants nothing to do with him.

The woman shared her anonymously story on Reddit on Thursday, when she said she'd given birth to her son Jacob just one week ago, and had no support from her ex-boyfriend who had cheated on her multiple times while she was pregnant.

In her post, the mum claimed she and the baby's father had already reached a formal custody agreement that would see the mum have sole custody and said her ex wasn't in the delivery room when their son was born - and therefore had no input on the naming process.

She said: "I gave birth to my son Jacob 6 days ago, who is a bundle of sunshine and joy and everything wonderful in the world. My baby daddy, Chris, has not been in the picture of anything since I found out he cheated on me when I was four months pregnant with not one, not two, but eight other girls.

"We were going to do the co-habit parenting style and the whole nine yards until I found out about his infidelity. So I don’t know where’s he’s been staying and nor do I care.

"He already signed over his rights legally but will still pay monthly child support. We also opted to discuss visitations on our own with a chaperone, and he has obviously agreed to them.

"He has not taken interest in our child at all. He has also claimed I cheated on him and the child isn’t his, and completely cut contact with me a month ago.

"I had my mum and sister in the delivery room with me and we decided names after he was born because I chose to have the gender a surprise. We named him Jacob in honour of my grandfather, the middle name after my mum's brother, and my last name since I never married the dude."

The woman went on to explain that her ex-boyfriend is a "junior" and has the same name as his father, so was apparently hoping to give his son the family name too - even though he has no involvement in the tot's life.

And the dad was equally as furious that the woman chose not to give their son his last name, as he claimed his "lineage was dying" as a result.

She added: "I made a Facebook post about Jacob's arrival and then a few hours later I get nonstop messages and calls from Chris calling me all kinds of names for not including him in the name decision making.

"He told me he wanted him named after himself (he’s a junior) and he wanted my son to be the 3rd along with the middle name after his uncle.

"He was also livid that I gave Jacob my last name instead of his. He said his 'lineage' was dying as he’s the only son.

Commenters on the Reddit post were firmly on the woman's side, as many of them noted her ex has no right to be angry if he isn't going to be involved in his son's life.

One person said: "He didn’t earn the right to be a part of the naming, and why would he even want a baby he didn’t believe to be his to have his name?"

While another added: "Screw feeling guilty, he made his bed. All you need to feel right now is love for your new baby."
