'My daughter is named after a Wu-Tang Clan album - she hates me for it'

A mum says she harbours some regret over the name her now ex-husband picked out for her eldest daughter, and feels she should have put her "foot down more." Mum Stephanie Teeters says she had her first daughter when she was 22 years old, during her first marriage, but now regrets the deal she struck with her ex.

They had decided that Stephanie would get to name their child if it was a boy, while her then-husband would get to choose if they had a little girl. He decided to name her Shaolin, after the 2015 Wu-Tang Clan album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.

Taking to TikTok, where she goes by the username @vegastattooedluxuryagent, the regretful mum recalled: "So if I could go back, I'd probably change my eldest daughter's name.

"I was 22, it was my first marriage, and if it was a boy I got to pick the name, and if it was a girl he got to pick the name. And I didn't put my foot down more."

She continued: "So my oldest daughter's name is Shaolin, not like the monks, but like the Wu-Tang Clan. And it's spelled S-h-a-o-l-i-n, and I think some days she hates me for it. But I've told her she can change it".

The confession video has racked up nearly 650k likes, plus more than 10.5k comments, with many reassuring the mum the name choice was actually "pretty cool". Others had similar stories of name regret to share.

One person sympathised: "Don’t worry, I know someone who let their husband name their baby after their favorite band… Slayer."

Another said: "My sister named her first daughter Everly After. Her middle name is after. I’m helping her change it when she’s older."
