A man has been branded "immature" for bursting out into laughter after his cousin proudly revealed her new dog's name on social media. He explained how his 45-year-old cousin has always had an "affinity" for overcomplicating spellings of "normal names" - saying how she named her children Stefanee, Mykaighlah and Khai-leigh.
While he expected her to follow suit when naming her new dog, he didn't think she'd be so clueless when committing to a certain spelling. He said: "I have a cousin who is a little flaky and has always had an affinity for overcomplicated spellings. If you know the type you know what I'm talking about.
"Whatever, to each their own, it doesn't affect me. I've never said boo about what she named her kids and have always done my best to spell them correctly on birthday cards."
The 42-year-old went on to explain how his cousin sent him a Facebook message showing off her new puppy - but he couldn't help but laugh after being told its name.
"She drops the name on me - pronounced Cody or Kody," he added. "But of course it isn't spelled that way, she had to put her twist on it to make it special - she is spelling it Chode.
"I might be 42 now but I was once a potty-brained teenager and I know what a chode is.
"After I got my laughter under control I messaged her back and told her to look up chode on Urban Dictionary."
While waiting for her reply, he realised she'd already posted about her new puppy on her Facebook feed - proudly sharing its name to all her online friends.
He said: "It had a healthy amount of laugh-reacts but nobody had commented yet. I sent her screenshots of some of the funnier Urban Dictionary definitions.
"She flipped out and sent me a few nasty messages about how immature I am. I guess I could have been more 'mature' about it but c'mon, she named her dog chode!
"I didn't think it was that serious, she's only had the dog two days now so it's not like he knows his name and she's usually the type to laugh at a dirty joke but not this time."
Unsure how to handle the situation, he has taken to Reddit to ask users whether he should apologise or just "laugh it off and wait for her to cool down".
One user said: "I mean, she's going to be taking her dog out to places like the vets, and having it called up. . You've made her aware - what she does with that info is up to her."
Another user added: "I am a vet tech and just bust a gut laughing at the idea of me going into the waiting room and saying 'Ready for chode in room 2!' It's an unnecessarily weird spelling of Cody?".
A third user said: "Even Codee or Kodee. The 'h' has no business being there. Even Codey or Kodey."
