A woman in her 70s has been suffering an infestation of bees, ants and flies in her home. Grace Stewart has lived in the property, with her daughter Sharon Carroll, for 28 years.
The problem has gotten so out of hand that she is pleading with her local council to fix it. Issues arose over the summer, shortly after the death of Grace's husband Matthew.
A broken window led to the insect infestation which both Grace and Sharon say feels like a challenge of ITV’s 'I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here'. Grace is trying hard to sort out the problem but is having little success with North Lanarkshire Council .
As reported by Daily Record, Grace said: “In my bedroom I’m getting ants, bees, flies and creepy crawlies through the window, which is closed. My daughter had to put a sheet up and a curtain but they are still getting in. We can’t use the room now, it’s been closed off."
Grace appears to call the state of the house in question, saying roughcast or pebbledash used on the exterior is coming away from the walls. She said: "Roughcast has fallen off our house.
“The Environmental Health team have said I need a new window but it’s getting really bad. I can’t go in there.
"I’m 70 and in bad health but I’ve been sleeping in a chair because I can’t go into the room. It’s really bad.
"We have used two tins of fly-killer this morning. I’m supposed to be getting the house roughcasted and a new window put in but nothing seems to be getting done.”
Sharon added: “We’ve got containers on the window ledge full of vinegar and lemon but nothing seems to work. Both of us have been stung when we went in there, it’s like I’m A Celebrity at times.
“The inspector has been out and has said he will do his best for us but it seems like half a job has been done. We need it sorted quickly.”
A council spokesman insisted the local authority was helping the family. “Our pest control contractor attended the property twice in August following reports of bees in the house but there was no activity found,” they told us.
“They visited again on October 25 and bait was laid for ants. Our housing service has carried out a temporary repair to seal a bedroom window until a replacement window can be installed.”
