'My £3k Turkey teeth made me look like a shark - now I feel like plucking them out'

A model from Manchester says he feels like 'plucking his teeth out' after getting £3,000 veneers that made him "look like a shark".

Jack James decided to get his teeth done so he could look “better on camera” and flew out to Istanbul in Turkey for the pricey procedure. The 22-year-old was initially happy with the results - but months later he said he noticed his teeth start to bleed, pus and leak.

Jack said he was left with “terrible breath” and decided to book an emergency dentist appointment. Following a check up, he was told his teeth had become infected and he'd need to pay £20,000 to fix the problem.

Unable to afford the high costs in the UK, desperate Jack forked out £4,500 and flew back out to Turkey earlier this month to have the veneers removed. On removing the veneers he found out that his real teeth had been shaved down to look like a "shark", he claimed.

Jack has now been fitted with a new set of veneers - which he still has - but since returning to the UK one of his teeth has fallen out, he said.

The model was initially happy with the results of his veneers after having them fitted in September 2022. “They looked good until they started to bleed and hurt," Jack explained. “They started to pus and leak. My breath stunk. When they took the veneers out I saw they had shaved my teeth down so much. I looked like a shark."

Jack described the ordeal as "like something out of a horror movie".

Initially he realised he was struggling to floss but didn't think anything of it until his teeth started to bleed in May 2023. "I searched for an emergency dentist and had x-rays done," Jack recalled. "The dentist said my teeth were a mess and that I had an infection. They said it would cost up to £20k to fix."

Unsure of what to do, Jack got back in touch with the clinic in Turkey to see if they could help. He said: "They were adamant it wasn't their fault. They said I'd have to pay again to get it fixed."

Jack was quoted £4,500 to have them fixed and decided to fly out again. "They took all my teeth and the abscess out and put temporary teeth in," he said. "It took a few weeks for the infection to clear."

Jack was then able to have a new set of veneers fitted and returned to the UK. But while brushing his teeth a crown fell out and he has been left with a gap in his teeth.

Jack is now warning others to do their research before going abroad for their dentistry treatments. He said: "I feel so upset with myself. I feel like plucking all my teeth out. I wish I'd got composite bonding but I can't change the past."
