The Scottish SPCA has launched an investigation after the body of a mutilated dog was found in a park in Paisley.
The Boerboel-type dog, believed to be named Huncho, was discovered in a shallow puddle of water at Glennifer Braes Country Park on the southern edge of the Renfrewshire town sometime on Thursday morning.
Distressing images of the dog, which the Record has censored due to their upsetting nature, show the pup lying in a small pool at the park.
The pictures appear to suggest that the dog's ears have been cut off or mutilated.
It is unclear how long the dog had been lying in the park prior to being discovered last week.
However, it has been suggested that the body of the dog was in a partial state of decomposition, meaning it may have been there for some time.
A Scottish SPCA spokesperson said: "This has been reported to us and is now an ongoing investigation so we are unable to comment any further."
Police Scotland said they were made aware of the discovery on Thursday afternoon, after it had been reported to the Scottish SPCA.
However, it is understood that it is not being treated as a police matter, with responsibility for the probe handed to the animal cruelty charity.
