Golf might initially seem like a very serious sport which conjures up ideas of argyle sweater vests and baseball caps, but golf can actually be played in a variety of weird and wonderful ways, for example taking a shot while a giant spider squirts water at you.
Whatever fun golf-based scenario you can imagine, there's bound to be a putting courses filled with fun obstacles for a perfect family day-out.

Tucked away in a hidden corner of Alnwick Gardens is the Forgotten Crazy Golf course is this outdoor adventure golf course full of moving giant bugs and water-squirting creepy creatures of all kinds, which will put you to the test as you try and complete and course.

CrazyPutt Adventure Golf Course - Morpeth (Morpeth Family Golf Centre)
This 18-hole adventure course has a pirate theme, and features giant Killer whales, a water fall and a graveyard.
It also takes plenty of inspiration from famous golf courses, with a homage to the 18th green at St Andrews, including a mini Swiklen Bridge.
The course is floodlit to, so you can play at night.

Parklands Golf Club - Gosforth
Known for its 18-hold standard course, Parklands also have a idyllic mini-golf course for putters of all abilities and ages.
The mini course has synthetic putting greens, obstacles and even water features. You can also pick up scorecards to enhance the fun and family competitiveness.
Under 13s are charged just £3.50 to play. Tickets are £4.50 for adults, while family tickets are available for £14.
They also host kids birthday parties which is ideal if you're little one is gaga for golf.

Dinosaur Encounter - Morpeth
Heighley Gate Wyevale Garden Centre is home to a 12-hole mini golf course, fully dedicated to dinosaurs. There are life-sized models of dinosaurs around the course, including moving Spinosaurus and Brachiosaurus.
The course is suitable for children of all ages and offers plenty of Jurassic themed fun and entertainment, with its 12 golf holes, designed to test the novice as well as the seasoned golfer.
Admission is £3 for kids, £4.50 for under-12s and £5.40 for over-12s.

Adventure Valley - Durham
Durham's Adventure Valley is a favourite day out for families with young kids. As well as a petting zoo and adventure soft play, there is a mini-golf course.
And, you can visit the course separately to the Adventure Park, so you do not need to pay for an entry free to Adventure Valley to have a go on the golf course. Instead you can just opt to pay for golf-only for £4 per person. The price is £2 each for visitors to Adventure Valley.
The Cowboy-themed course has 18 holes.
