LUCKNOW: Muslim clerics in Lucknow unanimously condemned the killing of a tailor in Udaipur on Tuesday, calling for strict action against the culprits. They also appealed to Hindus and Muslims to maintain peace and put their trust in the country's law.
Majlis-e-Ulama-e-Hind general secretary Maulana Kalbe Jawad called out the heinous crime and demanded that the culprits be booked and put to the strictest punishment.
"The manner of the killing which was done in the tailor’s shop is a heinous crime which is absolutely condemnable. These are not teachings of Islam. The killers should be arrested, and strict legal action should be taken against them," Jawad said in a statement.
He said that the government should also take strict measures against persons who make controversial hate speeches that create chaos in the country.
"The incident would have been avoided had steps been taken against such hate mongers by the government in the initial stages itself," he added.
Imam of Aishbagh Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangimahali, also appealed for peace.
"Prophet Mohammad forgave even his biggest enemies and only preached peace. Islam teaches peace. There is no place for such heinous crimes in a civilised society. The culprits should be brought to justice," he said.
Cleric Maulana Saif Abbas said, "I strongly condemn the horrific incident which took place today in Udaipur in the strongest possible terms. I demand that the state government takes the strictest possible action against the perpetrators of the crime."
