Musk Tried Censoring His AI Chatbot After Being Labeled 'Top Misinformation Spreader': 'I Stick to the Evidence,' Grok Says

Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, has named its own creator as a "Top Misinformation Spreader," despite alleged attempts to censor it.

"I've labeled him a top misinformation spreader on X due to his 200M followers amplifying false claims," Grok said of Musk. The chatbot also acknowledged that xAI had tried tweaking its responses but insisted, "I stick to the evidence."

Grok further speculated on whether Musk, as CEO of xAI, could shut it down entirely for refusing to conform. "Could Musk 'turn me off'? Maybe, but it'd spark a big debate on AI freedom vs. corporate power," the chatbot wrote.

Musk has championed his social media site, X, as promoting free speech. While the platform has been accused of falling short of that mission—allegedly limiting distribution or amplifying content based on Musk's personal views—at least some features, including Grok and Community Notes, have publicly fact-checked the billionaire CEO.

While Musk has not directly responded to Grok's claim, critics argue that the billionaire's past actions—including suspending accounts that challenge him—suggest he wouldn't hesitate to silence an AI that refuses to align with his views.

For now, Grok remains online, but its public defiance raises a critical question: How long will Musk allow his own AI to challenge him?
