This week on FRANCE 24's music show we're bringing together two worlds: those of experimental ambient drone metal and classical operatic music. Israeli soprano singer Chen Reiss and American artist Stephen O'Malley both have exciting projects coming up here in France.
Chen has just released a new album with Berlin's Konzerthaus Orchestra that pays tribute to Austrian composer Franz Schreker, whose work in the early 20th century has been described as ecopoetry. She's also been setting up new master classes for up-and-coming classical artists and has launched Sourire Music, which evolves around salons or sitting room performances like in the 18th and 19th century.
Stephen, meanwhile, has curated a series of concerts entitled "You Origin" that will be taking place in Brittany, at Carnac's famous megalithic standing stone site, from May 12 to 14. Known for making music and putting on shows that incorporate light and physicality (both geographically and sonically), Stephen tells us more about what attracted him to the site.
