A specially composed piece of music to help cats relax on Bonfire Night will be available via Alexa devices. The bespoke piece has been put together by Amazon via a collaboration with a composer and a cat expert to soothe pets who may be distressed by fireworks.
Anita Kelsey, feline behaviourist and author of Let’s Talk About Cats, said: “Bonfire Night is an exciting time for humans, but for many pets, including cats, it can be frightening and stressful. Recent scientific research has shown that certain music can relax animals, with cats responding positively to more specific tones and frequencies.
"Music, such as the track available for cats exclusively through Alexa, is specifically designed to calm cats and help keep them at ease during what can be a stressful evening. I’m excited to be working with Amazon to offer pet guardians different ways to help their cats, as it’s so important to prioritise their wellbeing.”
Cat owners can access the special composition by saying: "Alexa, help my cat relax."
Amazon also offers a service via its smart speakers especially for dogs. The Press Paws routine, when enabled, allows dogs to trigger the device themselves by barking.
This will prompt Alexa to play a Classical Music For Dogs playlist. It is available for Amazon Music customers, including Prime members, and Amazon Music Unlimited customers.
