Museum unveils plans for 'blazing' birthday bash celebrating Robert Burns

CELEBRATION for the life of Robert Burns return this month at the National Trust for Scotland’s Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway.

The museum is hosting events such as haggis-hunting and caramel wafer jenga as part of a family friendly Burns birthday celebration.

The activities will take place on January 21 and 22, and there will also be a "blazing Burns" event.

Burns's birthday bash will run across both days from 10am-4pm with other offerings including face painting and balloon modelling – and admission is free for the celebrations all day.

Those attending the event on Saturday night will get to take part in a ceilidh led by the McHart ceilidh band as well as a fire show. Doors open at 7pm with tickets starting at £8.50 including haggis, neeps and tatties for all attendees.

Lauren McKenzie, functions and events manager of the National Trust for Scotland’s Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, said: “This year, we wanted not only to celebrate the life and work of our famous bard, but we also wanted to give people the chance to come together to celebrate, learn and share their own Burns stories following two years of restrictions due to the pandemic.

“Our events offer something for the entire family and in line with our Nature, Beauty & Heritage for Everyone strategy will be a great chance to be part of something to remember for years to come.”

The event follows the announcement that the National Trust now has 12 original Robert Burns manuscripts which are on display at the museum in its new exhibition, Homecoming.

Joining the manuscripts in the exhibition are Burns's first commonplace book and more than 5000 Burns related items.

People attending the exhibition can also visit the cottage where the Scottish poet was born.
