The High Court’s order yesterday forced rapid central force deployment. Before this, seven BSF companies were patrolling Dhuliyan, Jangipur, and Shamsherganj. Now, five more CISF companies have been rushed to key flashpoints, mainly Shamsherganj.
During an emergency meeting, the Union Home Secretary assured West Bengal officials of 300 standby BSF troops in Malda. These can be mobilized if the state requests reinforcements.
For now, joint operations by central and state forces are underway to restore calm.
