Murshidabad on Edge: Central Forces Move In After Violent Protests

Murshidabad Protests Turn Violent

Murshidabad: Tensions Flare in Murshidabad as Protests Turn Violent. The latest visuals show clashes between citizens and police in Murshidabad. The situation remains volatile despite heavy security deployment.

The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed nearly 300 BSF personnel were already stationed in the district. Five additional companies have been sent following a request from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the West Bengal government.

West Bengal’s DGP stated the situation was tense but now under control. Over 150 arrests have been made so far. Local BSF units are assisting state police in maintaining order.

Seven BSF companies are currently deployed in Dhuliyan and Shamsherganj—the worst-hit areas. The Kolkata High Court has mandated Central Armed Police Forces in Murshidabad after violence erupted during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act.

Senior police officials conducted area domination exercises and held crisis meetings with local officers.

The High Court’s order yesterday forced rapid central force deployment. Before this, seven BSF companies were patrolling Dhuliyan, Jangipur, and Shamsherganj. Now, five more CISF companies have been rushed to key flashpoints, mainly Shamsherganj.

During an emergency meeting, the Union Home Secretary assured West Bengal officials of 300 standby BSF troops in Malda. These can be mobilized if the state requests reinforcements.

For now, joint operations by central and state forces are underway to restore calm.
