While the Boston Celtics might eventually need to replace what they anticipated injured vet swingman Danilo Gallinari bringing to the team, everything we are hearing suggests the Celtics are in no hurry to do so.
Now, soon-to-be-retired veteran Celtics beat writer Mark Murphy sheds a bit of light why that might be the case.
In a recent interview with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg on the “Celtics Talk” podcast, Murphy revealed he did not think that the Celtics have any interest in some of the more prominent names being attached to Boston at present.
“I don’t think they are at all interested in Carmelo (Anthony), for example,” offered the veteran Boston beat writer. “They obviously weren’t interested in (Montrezl) Harrell, and I think what it comes down to is that they don’t want to sacrifice their defensive principles.”
This, coupled with what we’ve been hearing about the team wanting to see if what it has on the roster is capable of filling in for Gallo suggests those Celtics fans yearning for a splashy move may have to wait.
And perhaps for as long as the trade deadline, depending on how things pan out internally.
