“Members of the local community will notice enhanced police activity in the area as officers conduct enquiries.
“Police are following a positive line of inquiry.”
Shocked neighbours today paid tribute to the “wonderful woman” who has lived in the area for a number of years.
One woman, who asked not to be named, told the Daily Record: “She really was such a lovely lady. She never passed without giving you a wee wave in the street. I think we’re all still a bit shocked that something like this could happen to her. She was honestly a lovely soul. It’s such a shame.”

Another added: “When I woke up on Sunday morning, there was just police everywhere. We didn’t have any idea what had happened but we’ve got a fairly good idea now.
“One of the neighbours is a nurse and we’ve been told that she was the one that found Katie and tried to help her. The detectives have been out and told us all that we don’t need to worry and aren’t in any danger.
“We just hope they get to the bottom of this soon and we’re thinking of all her friends and family.”
Floral tributes have been left at the property which remains surrounded by a police cordon.
