Murder suspect extradited from the US to face court in England after Luton killing 18 years ago

A man suspected of a killing in Luton 18 years ago has been extradited from the United States and charged with murder.

Mohammed Tabraz, 39, is accused of murdering Soheil Mumtaz, 24, in 2001.

Tabraz faced magistrates in Luton on Wednesday, Bedfordshire Police said.

Mr Mumtaz was attacked in Kenilworth Road on April 4, 2001.

He died in hospital five days later.

He was "lured to a meeting and then beaten to death about the head with a weapon", according to a police record of the killing.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit worked with the US authorities to carry out the extradition process.

Tabraz will appear at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday.
