Police have launched a domestic violence-related homicide investigation after the death of a critically injured woman found near a burning home.
Initial investigations indicated a man stabbed the 31-year-old multiple times outside a house in Kallangur, 30km north of Brisbane, about 7pm on Saturday, police said.
The 32-year-old is believed to have then gone back inside the Frances Court house and deliberately set it alight, Detective Inspector David Harbison said on Sunday.
Emergency crews arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
The woman stumbled from the scene, collapsing 100m away at Brimstone Court, where police found her.
She died shortly after.
The man was found in a nearby street and taken to Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital.
He died on Sunday from serious burn injuries sustained in the fire.
Police are treating the incident as domestic violence-related, with the two believed to have been in a long-term relationship.
Investigators believe they had moved to Kallangur from NSW within the past week.
Det Harbison confirmed there were no current domestic violence orders in place for the pair in Queensland or NSW.
He said no one was in the house at the time of the blaze despite reports of a child being involved.
"It was a very dynamic, evolving incident when police, paramedics and fire officers arrived," he said.
"There was an initial suggestion that there was a small child in the house. That was found to be not the case."
About 40 detectives are working on the investigation, interviewing local residents, witnesses and family members and asking for any CCTV footage.
"The incident occurred around 7pm but we're particularly interested in yesterday afternoon, Saturday afternoon, around this area," Det Harbison said.
A report will be handed to the coroner.
