Negus McLean, 15, was stabbed to death in Edmonton after being chased by around seven young men wearing hooded jumpers and face masks and riding bicycles. He was beaten with metal poles before being stabbed in the thigh and chest with such force that the blade snapped off in his body. Three young men have been charged with his murder.

Kunaliny Alagaratnam and Santhirapathy Tharmalingam

Kunaliny Alagaratnam, 42, and Santhirapathy Tharmalingam, 59, died in a fire on the 16th floor of a Deptford tower block. A 50-year-old woman started the blaze using two cans of lighter fuel after a dispute over her rent arrears. Alagaratnam and Tharmalingam died of smoke inhalation during a fire in which 50 firefighters were involved. The woman was found guilty of two counts of manslaughter.

Trevor Ellis, 26, was shot dead during the London riots. He had travelled to Croydon with his friends when he was confronted by a gang of nine looters. A fight led to a car chase, and police found him in a car with a gunshot wound to the head. He died in hospital the following day. Fourteen men were arrested and 10 remain on police bail, but no one has been charged.

Gemma McCluskie

The dismembered body of former EastEnders actress Gemma McCluskie was found in the Regent’s Canal in Hackney, east London. Her torso was found in a suitcase floating in the canal close to Broadway Market. Two weeks later her arms and legs were recovered from the same stretch of water. On 9 September, her head was found at Kingsland Basin by members of the public cleaning the canal. Her brother was convicted of her murder.

Rolls and Regina Say
Borough, 13 February 2011
Rolls Say, 10 and his sister, Regina, eight, were killed by their father to spite his estranged wife after he found he was to be evicted from his flat. Their throats were cut and Rolls suffered a head injury; they also suffered knife wounds as they attempted to defend themselves. The father pleaded guilty to their murders.

Wales supporter Michael Dye, 44, was attacked outside Wembley stadium on the night of the Euro 2012 qualifying match with England. He suffered head injuries and died in hospital. A postmortem gave the cause of death as blunt trauma to the back of the head. A 41-year-old man was charged with murder and convicted of manslaughter

Cheryl Tariah, 17, was found strangled at a flat in Barkingside, east London, after police were called to a disturbance at the home above the Buy Labels For Less store on the high street. A postmortem gave the cause of death as compression of the neck. Cheryl’s 18-year-old boyfriend pleaded guilty to her murder.

Kelvin Easton, 23, was stabbed to death at the Boheme nightclub in Mile End, east London. A postmortem gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart. Twelve men were arrested during the investigation; one was tried for murder, but acquitted.

Harjinder Singh Bhurji, 32, was stabbed to death in Clayhall by a masked robber as he sat chatting with a female friend in his car. The attacker first dragged the woman out of the car before demanding the car keys. Bhurji was stabbed in the chest after he tried to hide the keys under his seat. His attacker then took the keys and drove off. Five men were arrested; two remain on bail. No one has been charged with the murder.

Sashana Roberts, 24, was stabbed to death at her family home in Cricklewood. Her body was found in the bath and a postmortem gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds. Her former partner, a 42-year-old man, was convicted of her murder.

Jonathan Barnes
Croydon, 23 August 2011
Jonathan Barnes, 20, died two days after being shot in the head during a bungled robbery in Addiscombe, Croydon. Barnes and another man tried to rob a man of fake Rolex watches at his home, but during the robbery a fight ensued and Barnes was shot by his accomplice. A 25-year-old man was found guilty of his murder.

Umesh Chaudhary, 41, was battered to death with a brick by a stranger while walking to work from his home. A 23-year-old man was pinned down by local residents and charged with murder. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

David Petch, 55, died four days after being assaulted outside his home. Police and paramedics were called and found him with serious head injuries. He suffered a brain haemorrhage and died in hospital. Two people have been charged with his murder.

Luke Fitzpatrick, 25, was stabbed to death in Dollis Hill, north-west London. Luke and his father had been among a crowd of people watching the Champions League final on TV at the Ox And Gate pub. An altercation started inside the bar before spilling outside. Both Luke and his father were stabbed a short distance away. Three people have been charged with the murder.

Colin Hammond, 65, was stabbed on Fulham High Street. Police and paramedics were called to the scene and he was pronounced dead. A postmortem gave the cause of death as a single knife wound. A 27-year-old man was arrested near the scene and has been charged with Hammond’s murder.

Anthony Whitefield, 47, was murdered and dismembered some time between 6 February and 31 March. His severed arms were found in Roding lake, while the torso and legs were found in other locations. Whitefield’s head has not been found. A 54-year-old man was convicted of the murder.

The body of Evaldas Svolkinas, 34, was found in a stream in Romford, east London, after police were called to Carter’s Brook and found Svolkinas, a Lithuanian carpenter, had suffered severe head injuries. No one has been charged with the murder.

Ruby Love
Southall, 25 December 2011
Ruby Love, 23, was strangled and dumped in the Grand Union canal on Christmas Day 2011. Her body was spotted by a member of the public at Bankside, Southall. Love’s boyfriend was charged with murder and is facing trial.
