A murder investigation is under way after a woman in her 40s was found dead in south-east London.
Emergency services were called to Hatfield Close, SE14, at 6.41am on Sunday after reports of a seriously injured woman. Despite the efforts of paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A short time later, at 6.52am, a 44-year-old man self-presented at Lewisham Police Station in connection with the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Police believe the man and woman were known to each other. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The investigation is ongoing.
