A man sought by police over a double stabbing has been found dead. Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino, 38, was wanted for the murder of Yolanda Saldana Feliz, 53, and the non-fatal stabbing of a 30-year-old woman in Newham, east London, on October 23.
The two victims, who knew Florentino, were found injured at a house in Windmill Lane, Newham, in the early hours of the morning. Police took the unusual step of publicly naming Florentino as the suspect as they launched a manhunt to find him.
On Friday evening, detectives found his body in a river near Blaker Road, in Stratford, east London. His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and his family has been told.
Police cordoned off an area of Windmill Lane on October 23 after the women were discovered at a residential property in the street. A spokesman for the Met Police said at the time a murder investigation had been launched.
They said the women were found by officers at around 3.35am, having suffered stab wounds. One of the women, in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other woman, in her 30s, was taken to hospital.
The second woman’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening. Police said they were hunting a man known to both women.
Officers then took the unusual step of naming the wanted man as Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino. Detective Inspector Aytac Necati said at the time they wanted to hear from anyone who could help find him.
He said then: “We have carried out a number of enquiries, including reviewing hours of CCTV, door knocking and forensics. However, we are now calling on members of the public to help us urgently trace Miguel Angel Alvarez Florentino who we want to speak to in connection with the incident. He may be going by a different name."
