A man will remain in custody after being charged with murdering another man whose body was found in the stairwell of a busy NSW commuter car park.
Emergency services were called to the car park in Wollongong about 7.20am on Sunday after the body of a 68-year-old man was discovered at the site.
Detectives arrested a 37-year-old man about three hours later only a short walking distance away from the city-centre facility, which is next to a train station.
He was taken to Wollongong police station and charged with murder.
The man appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Monday, when he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.
He is due to face court again via video link on July 17.
An interim order to carry out a forensic procedure, which can involve taking a suspect's DNA, was granted during the brief appearance.
A crime scene remained in place at the car park, which was expected to remain closed on Wednesday.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident or who was in the area at the time of the death to come forward.
