A Victorian man charged over a fatal assault near Geelong has faced court.
Ivan Deak, 60, appeared in person at Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday morning after he was charged with one count of murder.
The Bell Post Hill resident is accused of assaulting an 86-year-old man at a Lethbridge address, northwest of Geelong, on Saturday night.
The man died in hospital on Monday afternoon and Deak was charged with murder on Wednesday night.
Police say the men were known to each other.
The prosecutor told the Geelong magistrate police would need 11 weeks to compile their brief of evidence, including reports from a pathologist.
Deak was not represented by a lawyer but he responded "no" when the magistrate asked if he had any custody management issues.
Deak was remanded in custody to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on December 9. He did not make an application for bail.
