A new mum has been left gobsmacked after figuring out what the 'little plastic part' on the side of her baby's formula box is actually for, and has shared her discovery online.
Mum Gillian Mitchell is currently in the process of weaning her firstborn baby off milk and onto formula, a transition many parents will remember all too well.
Having previously 'never paid much attention' to the plastic bit in the corner of the box, Gillian was astonished to learn that it was actually a handy tool to help level off the powder on the scoop, ensuring a more accurate - and less messy - measurement.
In a 'baby hack' video shared to TikTok, where she goes by the username @gillianmitchell170, Gillian demonstrated the true purpose of the plastic strip, showing how it should be used to scrape off excess powder on her scoop, leaving it perfectly level.
Amazed, Gillian told her followers: "When you are taking your firstborn off milk and realise that this little plastic part makes the powder level. I know what to do the second time around!"
The relatable clip has clocked up more down than 3050 like and counting, as many parents have admitted they were unaware of the savvy hack. For some, the penny had only dropped after having raised and weaned multiple children.
One follower gasped: "No way. [I've had] four kids over 10 years, just had my last baby who is now 18 months and still use knife."
Another laughed: "I didn't realise for ages that the inside of the lid holds the scoop so you don't have to fish it out the powder every time."
A third person commented: "I just realised after having my second child, [it] makes life much easier."
