Mum wins lottery jackpot after spending life savings on daughter's cancer treatment

A loving mum in the US has won a staggering $2 million (€1.8 million) after spending her life savings to pay for her daughter's critical cancer treatment in a heartwarming twist.

74-year-old Geraldine Dozier-Gimblet snagged the whopping prize after purchasing the very last scratch card for sale in a local petrol station, only spending $10 (€9.10) on the item.

The Florida resident bought the scratchcard the day after her daughter finished treatment for breast cancer.

The shop clerk first thought that it had already run out of tickets for the crossword-style scratch game that Dozier-Gimblet wanted to buy, however, the woman convinced him to look one last time, and thankfully there was one ticket left.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Dozier Gimlet said: "At first the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best. He found the last one!”

Her daughter Lawrencina Jackson also spoke about what the win meant for her after beating cancer with the help of her mother.

She said: "The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer.

"My mom had taken out her life savings to take care of me when I was sick. I'm just so happy for her!"

When asked about spending her hard-earned money on helping save her daughter’s life, Dozier-Gimblet told Good Morning America: "I didn't really think about it, I just did what I had to do."
