Mum who gave birth without dad who had 'slept in' asked midwife to take first photos of their baby

A Scots mum has thanked a midwife who took adorable photos of her newborn baby - after the dad 'slept in' and missed the birth.

In a heartwarming video on TikTok, Megan Burns, from Hamilton, gave birth to baby girl Gabriella in Wishaw General Hospital on November 20, 2021, with mum Fiona by her side – as her boyfriend slept during a brief hour-and-a-half labour. The 23-year-old initially planned to blog the birth but when it "didn't go as planned" she handed her phone to student midwife Joanna Murray and asked her to take lots of photos.

Megan, also mum to Lola, three, decided to follow a TikTok trend where users post someone they'll never forget – and immediately knew Joanna should be the person to be featured. The video, now viewed over 150,000 times, reached Joanna, who was delighted when she stumbled across the TikTok post.

Speaking to the Record, Megan said: "I am pretty obsessed with TikTok and I'm always thinking of new videos I can make. "I've seen people doing the trend and I thought I could that that with the photos Joanna had taken. I initially planned to blog the birth but that didn't go as planned so I handed her my phone and asked her to take lots of photos. She was so lovely.

"My mum was my birthing partner because my boyfriend slept in for the birth. I didn't think the video would reach her at all but I had in my notes her name was Joanna so I wrote that in case she didn't remember me."
