A mother has issued a salient warning concerning dangerous swimsuits that she believes parents should never buy.
TikTok user Nikki Scarnati, @springhill.isr, is a qualified Infant Swimming Resource swim instructor and water safety advocate, RSVP Live reported.
She outlined that when selecting what swimwear to buy your children - it should never be in the colour blue.
Taking to video sharing platform TikTok, she detailed the reason why parents should exercise caution when taking their kids to the swimming pool or the beach, in her video: “Don’t buy blue bathing suits.”
Nikki said: “So this is not a bathing suit my daughter wears on a regular basis. I bought it on clearance specifically for this example for parents that wanted to learn.”
She asked that parents pick bright shades, like red, pink or purple.
She added: “This is why you do not put your children in blue bathing suits. Look how difficult it is to see her under the water, and this is in calm water.
“This is not with a whole bunch of other kids playing and splashing around and having a good time."
She referred to sunlight, saying how difficult it is to see because it’s the same colour as our environment.
“So do not buy blue bathing suits, guys. Don’t buy blue bathing suits," she said in the video.
Viewers were on her side, with lifeguards and other swim instructors offering up their opinions.
One person wrote: “I’m a former lifeguard and this is absolutely right! Any shade of blue is difficult to see, and so is any pastel light color in general.”
Another said: “As a former lifeguard the brighter the better. Skip the solid blues.”
Parents were in shock at the revelation. One said: “That’s crazy I would have never even thought about it wow.”
Another TikTok user said: “Same for all ages at the lake. With boats moving around, a head and arms are not seen until the boat is right up on them.”
