Headboards are a great way to create a stand out feature in a bedroom, but they can be quite pricey.
One mum has managed to transform her bedroom by creating her own Scandi-look headboard using some wallpaper from Amazon. The wooden-look paper has created the perfect centrepiece for the room.
To create the headboard, Julie Phillips, 50, bought some £12.49 Amazon wallpaper, a craft knife and wallpaper paste. As reported by LatestDeals.co.uk, Julie told money-saving Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK: "The inspiration for the headboard was actually the natural oak interior doors in my home. I just love the look of the natural wood, it’s so stylish and elegant.

"I wanted a headboard which was very similar with a Scandinavian look to it. I looked at lots of headboards online, but they were so expensive. The oak slatted headboard online I liked was £259 for a super king-sized bed, so I thought there must be a cheaper way to achieve this look without spending a fortune.”

Julie is a keen DIYer, so thought she could take on the task herself. She explained: “I love nothing more than to decorate and create new ideas in my home, so I started to scroll through the internet, in search of some ideas.
“When I came across the Fresco Natural Wooden Slats Wallpaper on Amazon, it was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered two rolls of the wallpaper at £12.49 each, a Craftright knife and some wallpaper paste.
"When the wallpaper arrived, I played around with a few ideas. I cut lots of strips off the wallpaper and layered them on top of one another until finally, I got the perfect match. I found by just removing the black edge of the wallpaper roll with a craft knife and creating an angled trim to match the outer colour of the headboard it worked perfectly.

"As soon as I added the trim on top of the wallpaper, it transformed the look and gave it a wonderful framed headboard finish. I'm absolutely made up with how it turned out. It has given my room a warm, cosy Scandinavian feel, which is exactly what I wanted.”
The project took Julie just over an hour. She said: "The wallpaper is so easy to hang and match. Just by adding a few green plants to the room, it complimented the look of the white and wood, creating the Scandinavian look I wanted.

"My next job will be to add some nice feature wall lights along the side of the headboard to complete the look. The total cost was less than £30, which was so affordable, especially when on a budget.
"I was made up that I had saved so much money compared to buying a new headboard, and I can always recreate a new headboard by changing the wallpaper. It was definitely a more affordable option. It just goes to show that if you shop around and play around with some ideas you can achieve a great original and unique look at a fraction of the cost!”
