Mum took her own life on Christmas Day leaving behind son, nine

A 28-year-old mum took her own life on Christmas Day, leaving behind her son, aged nine. Jordan Carter was found dead at home after police were called to her property at 8.30pm on December 25 - the day before her birthday.

Devon and Cornwall Police say Jordan's death is not being treated as suspicious. Jordan's mother, Cheryl Carter, has paid tribute to her "large-than-life" daughter who "loved" her son, Kai aged nine, reports PlymouthLive.

Cheryl is now raising funds for Kai to put in a trust fund, so he can have access to it when he is 18. Cheryl said she and her family have been "overwhelmed by the generosity of people". So far, £1,488 has been raised for Kai.

Cheryl said: "Jordan was a larger-than-life character, her two loves were horses and she started riding at the age of four. And of course, her son Kai.

"Myself and my family are totally overwhelmed by the generosity of people, especially with times being so difficult for most financially, with rising living costs and of course Christmas, however people still did donate. Which has restored my faith in human nature.

"No words could ever express my appreciation for all the donations and heartfelt messages at such a tragic time. I will be forever grateful."

Writing on the GoFundMe page - which you can donate to here - Cheryl said: "Hi my name is Cheryl, I'm fundraising for my grandson Kai, whose mum tragically took her own life on Christmas Day.

"All donations will be put in a trust fund for him. If anyone can help no matter how little it would be very much appreciated. Many many thanks."

Cheryl said her daughter had "suffered with mental health issues for many years" and she is now urging anyone who is struggling to reach out. She said: "People do care, and if people tried reaching out, there are people willing to help."
