Mum told she's unreasonable after threatening to 'take a bat' to car upsetting her baby

A mother has hit back at her husband over his ‘ridiculously’ loud car.

She claims she is ready to ‘take a baseball bat to it’ as it wakes their baby up. Although she remained anonymous, she took to an online parenting forum for support as she has come to the end of her tether.

Writing on Mumsnet, she fumed: “Years ago DH [dear husband] bought a ridiculously expensive (and loud) car with a huge roaring engine. The sound this stupid thing makes when he starts it up is embarrassing.

“I am absolutely ready to take a baseball bat to it. We have a young child (13 months) and I do 99 per cent of the overnights as DH works a lot.

“He sleeps better than he used to as a newborn obviously but he's been ill the past couple of weeks and has been up and down, often waking at about 3am and then going back to sleep, or trying at least.

“But then 6.30am comes and this stupid ******* beast on our driveway starts up and wakes him up and I've just had enough of it. I'm so mad about this ridiculous car.

“DH doesn't know what I expect him to do and I don't really know either, all I know is it ****** me off and I'm mad at him about it. Get the bus or something, I don't care just don't wake DC (and me after being up and down all night) with your stupid toy.

“Honestly I often wish I'd wake up in the morning to someone having stolen it in the night.”

This post quickly gathered a lot of attention with 200 fellow Mumsnet users flocking to the comments to give their two cents.

One slammed the husband: “If at 6.30am he starts it everyday he’s waking the entire street up which is incredibly selfish! Especially as there are a lot of quiet cars out there now. Tell him to sell it and get a reasonable car!”

A second suggested: “Park it further away, sell it or buy a normal second car.”

“It's really antisocial behaviour if there are neighbours. Why does he think he's entitled to wake everyone up at 6.30am? Ask him that.

“Isn’t he a bit too old to be a boy racer? Tell him to sell it. Tell him it's embracing,” another criticised.

A fourth piped up: “Hide the car keys until he agrees to sell it.”

Meanwhile others hit back at the mum complaining: “Surely you're used to it by now. I think YABU [you are being unreasonable], presumably he's off earning the money at 6.30am rather than enjoying leisure time.”
