Mum slams 'disrespectful' websites for not making change after Queen's death

A mum has criticised various websites for not making one change following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

On Thursday, September 8, the Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral at age 96, after reigning for more than 70 years.

After the news broke, numerous websites, including BBC, changed their banner to black, out of respect for the monarch. Taking to parenting forum Mumsnet, one woman questioned whether others should follow suit.

She wrote: "What are your thoughts on websites changing their colours to black and white in response to the Queen's death? I'm not an ardent royalist, but I think it's a nice touch in amongst this significant event.

"I've noticed some websites haven't and in a way I find it disrespectful. The Guardian hasn't bothered to do this, which isn't a surprise.

"But am I being unreasonable to think showing a little unity in this time wouldn't be amiss? Mumsnet hasn't done it either."

Before long, the post has received dozens of responses from fellow Mumsnet users. Opinion was divided on the matter.

One user wrote: "Completely a matter for them. If they do it, nice touch. If not, who cares?"

"I couldn’t care less about a website changing colour," echoed a second, while a third agreed: "OMG....haven't you got anything else better to think about?"

"What a load of nonsense this all is," argued a fourth.

A fifth said: "Ffs I will glad when we are back to just moaning about fuel bills."

"Get a grip," a sixth simply wrote.

However, others agreed with the original poster, with one commenting: "I think it’s respectful. I thought Mumsnet might have followed the trend, but obviously not."

A second said: "I’m quite traditional and think places should. The same way it’s respectful to fly flags at half mast."
